Brief description
Dr. Maura Farinacci has been working in the field of intellectual property since 2018 and joined the law firm "Zwicker Schnappauf und Partner PartG mbB" in 2023. Previously, Dr. Farinacci completed her training in a patent law firm in Berlin and subsequently continued to work there.
Dr. Farinacci is a professional representative before the European Patent Office.
Dr. Farinacci has experience in the drafting of European and international patent applications and the prosecution of patent applications in the fields of biology, cell and molecular biology, molecular diagnostics, and immunology. A further focus of her work is the preparation of patentability analyses and the preparation of "freedom to operate (FTO)" opinions.
Dr. Farinacci studied biology at the University of Trieste and the University of Milan and obtained her PhD at the University of Udine. During her doctoral thesis, she focused on the optimization of cell-based assays for the screening of antioxidant and immunomodulatory plant compounds.
She then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin in the Department of Immunology with Prof. Stefan H. E. Kaufmann. There she worked on the role of apoptotic vesicles in T cell activation. Dr. Farinacci then worked at Bayer Pharma AG in the Global Biomarker Research Department, Berlin, where she developed assays for the quantification and functional analysis of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) as biomarkers for cardiovascular diseases in preclinical studies. Subsequently, Dr. Farinacci worked at the Institute of Medical Immunology in the group of Prof. Hans-Dieter Volk, Charité Virchow, Berlin, where she was involved in the development of immunological assays for preclinical studies. Dr. Farinacci is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in the field of immunology and molecular biology.
