Brief description

Dr. Höpfner is a German patent attorney, a professional representative before the European Patent Office and a partner at ZSP.

Prior to joining the ZSP partnership in 2022, Dr. Höpfner was a partner in a large international law firm known for the exceptional presence of its attorneys in contested patent cases. 

With a technical background in biochemistry, Dr. Höpfner specializes in advising clients in all areas of the life science sector, including pharmaceuticals (for example, small molecule and biologics), medical devices, biotechnology, nutraceuticals, plant biotechnology, and diagnostics.

Dr. Höpfner has been involved in numerous opposition, appeal and patent revocation proceedings and advises on patent litigation and patent portfolio strategies, including supplementary protection certificate issues, due diligence and freedom-to-operate opinions, and proceedings related to the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPC).

His experience also extends to informatics and medical devices, allowing him to advise on interdisciplinary technologies.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Höpfner regularly publishes professional articles and holds seminars on various aspects of patent law.
