Brief description

Dr. Svenja Dorothea Steinbrink is admitted to practice before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court and the European Union Intellectual Property Office. She completed her training as a German patent and trademark attorney at the law firm "Zwicker Schnappauf & Partner Patentanwälte PartG mbB".

Her main practice areas are the preparation of German, European and international patent applications and the prosecution of the corresponding patent applications. She also assists in opposition, infringement and nullity proceedings of German and European patents.

Dr. Steinbrink studied pharmacy at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and the University of Hamburg. She completed her practical year at the Schützen-Apotheke in Munich and at the Institute of Pharmacy at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand, from which she graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy.

She obtained her doctorate in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Dieter Steinhilber at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Goethe University in Frankfurt, where she subsequently worked for another 1.5 years as a post-doctoral researcher. While working on her doctorate, she completed her law studies with a focus on intellectual property law.

Dr. Steinbrink successfully completed the master's program "Pharmaceutical Law" at the Faculty of Law of the University of Marburg from 2015 to 2017. In her master's thesis, she dealt with the topic "Scope of protection of second medical use claims and their infringement".

Dr. Steinbrink also gained in-depth knowledge of U.S. patent law by practicing law in the patent department of a large Boston law firm in 2018.

Since 2013, Dr. Steinbrink has regularly lectured as part of the "Core Curriculum" events of the Graduate School of the Goethe University Frankfurt. Since 2014, she has been a member of the supervisory board of INNOVECTIS Technologie Transfer Gesellschaft der Goethe Universität Frankfurt. Dr. Steinbrink is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the Licensing Executive Society (LES), the Association of Intellectual Property Professionals (VPP) and the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG). Since 2019, Dr. Steinbrink has been a member of the BioTech Standing Committee of AIPPI.
